Join The Commonwealth Equality Network

The Commonwealth Equality Network is a diverse network of 70+ organisations working together to champion the equality and human rights of LGBTI+ people across the Commonwealth. We invite groups and organisations committed to advancing the rights of LGBTI+ people to become part of our vibrant community.

Why Become a Member?

As a valued member of the Network you can expect a wealth of opportunities to learn, share and connect with others. Here is what membership will bring you:

  • Peer-to-peer networking: Members are given exclusive access to key regional and global member-only events and conferences guided by the priorities flagged by members.
  • Capacity building opportunities: The Network offers members online and in-person capacity strengthening opportunities in a range of areas that members have identified as priorities.
  • Networking and influencing opportunities: In key Commonwealth spaces and other international LGBTI+ spaces.
  • Opportunities for resources and support: Through access to periodic communications sharing key updates, news and opportunities.
  • Decision-making rights: Through voting at the General Meeting on key governance issues.

Who can join The Commonwealth Equality Network?

Membership is open to civil society organisations based in Commonwealth countries that are committed to advancing LGBTI+ equality. Whether you’re a grassroots group or an established NGO, your unique perspective and expertise can contribute to our collective mission.

We have developed a brief Membership Criteria to ensure that all members who join both contribute to and learn from the Network through their engagement. This approach fosters a dynamic, mutually beneficial community where organisations can provide guidance, share knowledge, and collectively strengthen our advocacy and capacity building efforts.

How to join The Commonwealth Equality Network

Organisations who meet the criteria are able to submit an application at any time, however please note that all applications are assessed once a year in March. During the assessment period the application form will be temporarily paused. Membership applications may be fast-tracked where the applicant is from an un- or underrepresented country or region, where the applicant can demonstrate a pressing need for membership or where membership may serve a broader time-sensitive strategic objective.

During the assessment period applications are shortlisted both by the Secretariat and at the regional level with the support of the Regional Representatives. The final selection is approved by the Management Committee before new members are informed and inducted into the Network.
