Eswatini Sexual and Gender Minorities (ESGM) is a human rights organisation advancing the protection, dignity, and well-being of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ+) persons in the Kingdom of Eswatini. The organisation works to reduce harm, challenge discrimination, and address systemic inequalities that affect emaSwati on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics.

ESGM envisions a socially cohesive Eswatini where LGBTIQ+ persons fully enjoy their human rights, live with dignity and safety, and contribute meaningfully to a thriving society for all. The organisation was founded to move the queer rights movement beyond fear, complacency, and personality politics by adopting a bold, inclusive, and community-driven approach rooted in solidarity, accountability, and justice.

Recognising that LGBTIQ+ persons are differently positioned within Eswatini’s traditional and conservative systems, ESGM understands that vulnerability is not equal. Some individuals face heightened levels of discrimination, violence, and exclusion. This understanding informs the organisation’s mission and mandate to prioritise those most at risk while affirming the value, dignity, and importance of every identity under the LGBTIQ+ umbrella.

ESGM actively engages institutions, policymakers, media practitioners, religious leaders, and community structures to transform attitudes, influence policy, and promote constitutional protections for all. The organisation facilitates the development of new policy areas to address unmet health and human rights needs and to respond to emerging challenges within the community.

Through psychosocial support and referrals, advocacy and lobbying for equality, legal and policy reform initiatives, free distribution of health commodities, and education and sensitisation on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE), ESGM works to create a safe, enabling, and rights-affirming environment. By strengthening both community resilience and institutional accountability, ESGM continues to advance equality, justice, and social well-being for sexual and gender minorities in Eswatini.
