The Trans Affirmative Action Guild (TAAG) is a registered not for profit, community-led organization dedicated to celebrating and building resilience within not just diverse Trans communities but especially affirming indigenous Vakasa and Sian (VST+) communities of Fiji. Founded by VST+  individuals, TAAG is rooted in ancient cultural identities that embody both masculine and feminine energies – concepts such as Vakasalewalewa and Vakasagane (Itaukei) and Sian-han and Sian-fa (Rotuman). These identities predate colonial influence and form the foundation of the organization’s commitment to safeguarding indigeneity and cultural diversity.

Driven by the lived experiences of its members, TAAG’s mission is to provide a safe, inclusive environment that challenges all forms of oppression, with a primary focus on underrepresented expressions of sex, gender, and sexuality. The organization serves as a vital resource for the VST+ community, striving to address basic human needs while building pathways toward expanded career and life opportunities.

TAAG operates through a framework of YAVU – a purpose and spirit woven from diverse narratives of resilience. The guild’s work is guided by five core values:

• Intersectionality: Addressing how multiple marginalized identities are exponentially impacted by systems of oppression.

• Critical Love: Utilizing a love ethic that nurtures holistic growth through both compassion and accountability.

• Interdependence: Recognizing collective strengths and disrupting oppressive notions of professionalism and individualism.

• Affirmation & Agency: Fostering a space where individuals are empowered to exist as whole, complex beings.

• Dynamic Adaptation: Remaining responsive to the evolving needs and desires of the community.

TAAG envisions a future defined by collective transformation and liberation. By centering love and art, the organization creates an environment of healing, connection, and joy, working collaboratively to develop systems of care that affirm the beauty of trans-diverse individuals.
