Trans Refugee Initiative (TRI) Uganda is a specialized humanitarian organization operating at the nexus of humanitarian response, public health, and human rights. Founded in 2022 to address the specific vulnerabilities of transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) refugees and displaced population (herein also collectively referred to as TGD refugees), TRI fills a critical gap in the Ugandan humanitarian landscape. We operate primarily in rural areas and refugee settlements where traditional aid mechanisms often fail to account for the unique protection risks faced by TGD individuals. In 2026, TRI remains the leading voice for rural-based trans refugees, ensuring that No One is Left Behind in the national refugee response.
