Dignitate Zambia Limited

Africa
Dignitate Zambia Limited (previously Friends of Rainka) has been in existence since 2007 and is operating as a not-for-profit, NGO with a vision to champion the rights of sexual minorities in Zambia. Due to the oppressive laws and unaccommodating environment, there was a realization that in order to effectively execute its work, the organization, like any other, needed a vision that would guide it towards achieving its goals. The mission was born out of a collective desire to advocate for inclusion of sexual minorities in Zambia, specifically those of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Inter-sex (LGBTI) people through the engagement of law and policy makers in legal reform to enhance the livelihood of the LGBTI community. However sexual minorities organizations remain committed to championing the rights of sexual minorities, and one of the principal ways of doing this is building institutional capacity, forgeing more alliances with like-minded key stakeholders and ensuring these are well informed on the grave situation sexual minorities are in, as well as pointing out the uninformed public homophobia.
